Artist Statement

“My work is focused on a form of escapism, being able to focus on and spend time with things that I care about — things that I miss from my past, or things that I adhere to my identity. Everyday life has a tendency to pull me away from my sense of self, so my art functions as a way for me to return, reflect, and feel grounded.

I create as a means of reflection, discovery, and curiosity. Through images of personal interest, I explore the natural world, allowing the inherent textures of various mediums to help express the beauty I see in it. The subjects of my work help me to explore concepts of identity, expression and emotion. I like to let my mediums and mark making guide each work, with a particular interest in making room for the unintentional and unexpected.”
